IPBES-1: Intergovernmental platform for biodiversity and ecosystem services
Ecol-Land is attending the first plenary meeting (19th-26th January) of the IPBES (Intergovernmental platform for biodiversity and ecosystem services). Lluís Brotons is representing as delegate, environmental research from Catalan CERCA institutions CREAF and CTFC. Research conducted in this centres has the potential to contribute to the assessments that IPBES will promote to guide policy making in this in the future.
IPBES will respond to requests for scientific information related to biodiversity and ecosystem services from Governments, relevant multilateral environmental agreements and United Nations bodies, as well as other relevant stakeholders. Governments have agreed that the four main functions of IPBES will be:
– To identify and prioritize key scientific information needed for policymakers and to catalyse efforts to generate new knowledge;
– To perform regular and timely assessments of knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services and their interlinkages;
– To support policy formulation and implementation by identifying policy-relevant tools and methodologies;
– To prioritize key capacity-building needs to improve the science-policy interface, and to provide and call for financial and other support for the highest-priority needs related directly to its activities.

IPBES 1- Plataforma intergovernamental sobre biodiversitat i serveis ecosistèmics
Ecol-Land participa en la primera sessió plenaria del IPBES a Bonn (Alemanya) (Plataforma intergovernamental sobre biodiversityat i serveis ecosistèmics). Lluís Brotons representa com a delegat acreditat la recerca duta a terme pels centres CERCA: CREAF i CTFC. La investigació duta a terme en aquests centres té la oportunitat de contribuïr de manera important a les evaluacions que IPBES promou amb l’objectiu de guiar les polítiques futures per que minimitzin el seu impacte sobre l’ambient.
IPBES respondrà els requeriments de necessitat d’informació científica relacionada amb la biodiversitat i els serveis econsistèmics per part dels governs, Nacions Unides i altres agents rellevants que l’integren. Més info: aquí.
